Why Choose Us?
We are the friendliest team of animal experts you will ever meet, delivering a uniquely personal service to our rapidly growing client base.
Our vision is to create a work space that enables our fully qualified veterinarians and nurses to do their best work and in doing so, provide the highest standard of care to our patients and their parents.
Many veterinary clinics will allocate 15 minutes for a consultation with the vet. At My Local Vet we will allocate a minimum of 30 minutes so the vet can take the time to become friends with your pet first before performing an examination. This is important so that your pet feels relaxed and unintimidated in the veterinary clinic setting. This will also provide enough time for our vet to take a thorough history of your pet’s lifestyle and health issues, examine your pet thoroughly and take the time to explain the treatment plan properly. Our consultation fee is $78.
When a pet is microchipped this involves placing a large needle (containing the chip) under the skin, in between the shoulder blades. You can imagine that this would be significantly more uncomfortable than say, the needle used for vaccination which is comparatively quite small. There are different sized microchips on the market. At My Local Vet we use the smallest microchip which is specifically designed to cause minimal discomfort to your pet. We also apply a local anaesthetic cream to your pet’s skin before injecting the microchip under the skin. This cream is vital to ensuring your pet’s comfort during microchipping and will prevent your pet from becoming afraid of the vet due to pain otherwise experienced during microchipping. The cost of microchipping at My Local Vet is $60 and this includes registration which we do for you online on the same day! This means your pet’s registration is effective instantaneous as opposed to having to wait the usual six weeks for your registration to be effective.
If your pet is anaesthetised for any reason, such as desexing, the cost of microchipping is only $45!
Behavioural medicine is a complex field of Veterinary Science but there is nothing more satisfying than changing a pets life for the better. Whether it be an anxious Staffy, a barking Dachshund or a feline who’s decided to urinate outside the litter tray, our vets will provide you with reliable advice and the most appropriate treatment options available. At My Local Vet we work together with the famous animal behaviouralist, Dr Cam Day, to achieve great outcomes for our patients with extreme behavioural issues. Often pet owners are surprised by the improvement through making some relatively minor changes to their pet’s routine, environment and interactions.
Animal dentistry represents 60% of the procedural load at My Local Vet. Needless to say we’re good at it! We have a dedicated dental suite comprised of exactly the same instruments you would find in a human dental clinic. Our digital dental radiology ensures we don’t miss a thing and we always take the time to show our clients exactly what we find on x-ray. Our veterinarians have undergone post-graduate training in animal dentistry to ensure they’re up to speed with contemporary techniques and technology. Most importantly, they will explain dental disease and required treatment in a way that’s easy to understand. General anaesthesia at My Local Vet: The safety of our patients is paramount so we have invested heavily in expensive equipment and staff training to ensure vigilant patient monitoring. Every anaesthetised patient has a dedicated nurse monitoring them throughout their procedure and all patients receive intravenous fluids before, during and after. This ensures adequate hydration, optimising metabolism of anaesthetic drugs and enables excellent blood pressure management.
